About the Plans
Below are the types of files you receive on the CD rom and by FTP download.
All plans are FULL SIZE
Plans are now provided only as full size patterns in Adobe form! No lofting no translating into lines!
Please read the following carefully so you understand what is supplied on the CD ROM
Downloaded plans are identical. (most plans can be emailed!)
All you need is to find a print shop that handles 3Foot sheets!!!
In PDF form
The PDF files (Adobe Reader) are small and can be viewed and printed on any machine.
Below is the complete set of PDF files for Baby Bootlegger, 37 sheets including General arrangement plan showing frame spacing and chine to base line heights.
DXF (CNC) files
Although you can view the DXF files they are only used by CNC cutters to cut out a 1 piece frame.
DXF files are extracted from the finished part and are used by laser cutters and overhead routers to very accurately cut out the part from a sheet of wood. In this case you would generally supply the particular timber of your choice and thickness to the laser cutter with a copy of the DXF files. There are good reasons for using this type of file and form of cutting. A DXF file is at a scale of 1:1 or full size. It shows the finished part as it was designed but can be used as a solid template.
Because there are so many ways to build frames, there is little chance to provide a scheme that everyone is happy with. There are single gusset frames, double gusset, lapped frames and combinations of all of these. A DXF cut template in 3mm plywood will give you a rigid, permanent reference for building any frame style accurate to the millimetre. It is also a permanent media for checking your finished frame. Some vessels such as Babyface Nelson, Super Flyer 20 and Bullet were built using 1 piece frames cut from DXF files.
